Did anyone else make a live web recommender for links? If so, post it here. I am intersted to see what other people did.
Here is mine:
@Bo Cowgill: In case you didn't already know, your article on google's prediction markets was eluded to in the latest Wired!
Here is a link to the article: http://www.wired.com/techbiz/it/magazine/16-06/st_essay
Media discovery through Twitter
In the last class while we were discussing the problem of music recommendations and discovery, someone suggested that Twitter could be used as a tool for this. I came across this article while going through my feeds a few days afterwards and thou...

If you get a 503 message, it is because you are being too aggressive with the del.icio.us servers and got throttled. Here is the link that explains it:
Is anyone else having problems with the del.icio.us assignment. Everything was working fine and then suddenly I started getting this error. Is any one else experiencing the same thing. Looks like the server crashed.

Question: transaction costs and the environment
i was thinking in today's lecture about transaction costs and how we keep hearing that transaction costs are virtually zero in the new economy. (I use 'transaction' loosely to refer to most, if not all interactions, such as information sharing)

Job Post for a Data Mining position at eBay
Quite accidentally stumbled upon this posting on Craigslist, while looking through the output of a Yahoo Pipe
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/sci/662495024.html
Interesting to read what a data miner does for living in the real world.

London Mayoral Elections and Internet Data
Very interesting data. Thanks for sharing.
Also, is the voting restricted to residents of London? If so, I don't see how you can compare % of UK traffic to % of US traffic. One is a local election -- the other is national.

Berkeley student 'Twitters' his way out of Egyptian jail
This is cool indeed. Just having finished teaching 9 hours at Haas (UC Berkeley's GSB) today, I for a moment thought it was one of my students there :)

Hey, all:
TechCrunch mentioned Friends For Sale. Especially interesting is the mention of competitors:

@Ashlee Miller: Hi Ashlee,
I've gotten more explanations for some speakers but not all. The poll's at http://www.polldaddy.com/p/516585/ if you want to check it out. Hopefully it should be ready soon. I'm just waiting for the green light on it now.

Also see http://www.google.com/support/googlea... if you are using the newer tracking code.
I have learned you can track individual links to pdfs and other non-html content with Google Analytics, but it appears to require moving the tracking code (see http://www.google.com/support/googlea...).
@Quinn Slack: Quinn - Are you getting the level of detail you need on the Guest Speakers to create the poll? Please let us know.
@Andreas Weigend: I am unsure of the due date of HW2. I know that you talked about the assignments for the first part of the class on Monday, but I don't recall the exact due date for HW2 nor is it on the wiki that I can see.
I added a section to the bottom of HW2 on the wiki for people to place links to their homepage. Seemed like an efficient way to visit everyone's site quickly and generate a lot of good data.
Cry for help...
I posted a cry for help on our class Facebook page. It is certainly indirectly related to this course (it's a data mining project I am working on), but not directly relevant to the current homework. Would surely appreciate if anyone can take a lo...

Prediction Markets
There is a company called predictify in San Francisco Bay Area. They came to the spring career fair last week. I thought their business model is pretty interesting. Hopefully, professor will invite them to give use a talk.
Collective intelligience is great, don't you think so?
Here is a link to their company's site:
