London Mayoral Elections and Internet Data
Posted Mon Apr 28 20:58:02 -0700 2008I am following the London Mayoral Race somewhat (Yup, I am bored with the Hillary - Obama race here in US :-). Hitwise had a nice blog enty on what is happening with internet and London Voters. Some interesting facts:
- Wikipedia is bigger than News and Media sites for voters who seek information on candidates
- If we think site traffic is a predictor, Boris Johnson should win (lets see)
- facebook sends a lot of traffic to at least two candidates. Interesting to see how Brian Paddick is using Facebook traffic to his advantage. He also sends most traffic to voter registration pages from his web site. Now this is really interesting. He is getting new votes on internet for a low cost.
But if you look at % of UK traffic that goes to any of these candidates sites or the number of hits on their YouTube videos, apparently it is nowhere near the US election stats.
London Mayoral elections: what does the Internet data say?

The above is not a predictive market but it would be interesting to see if the final results are anything like these graphs. The real election is on May 1st.

Very interesting data. Thanks for sharing.
Also, is the voting restricted to residents of London? If so, I don't see how you can compare % of UK traffic to % of US traffic. One is a local election -- the other is national.
